They're snapping like twigs

Don't you be worrying about black riots just yet, 'kay? You can worry about angry white McCain supporters.
After the rally, we witnessed a near-street riot involving the exiting McCain crowd and two Cuban-American Obama supporters. Tony Garcia, 63, and Raul Sorando, 31, were suddenly surrounded by an angry mob. There is a moment in a crowd when something goes from mere yelling to a feeling of danger, and that's what we witnessed. As photographers and police raced to the scene, the crowd elevated from stable to fast-moving scrum, and the two men were surrounded on all sides as we raced to the circle.
Nobody knows anger like 1) underachieving white people and 2) racist white people. Both groups make up John McCain's base (some overlap there...), and they will not take kindly to losing. It does not matter that they have GWB for eight years. That actually made things worse. Now they want a re-do.

The roots of the anger go back to a white underclass and to immigrants into the South who were not slaveowners. Slaves at least had a sinecure, whereas they did not, and they had to compete directly with slaves from a lower rung on the scale, working for or against the same plantations.

No other European colonial environs experienced or promoted a steady, massive migrational influx of poor whites into an economy based on (in effect) slave labor. Those poor or independent whites hated blacks because of the dichotomy between steadfast belief in racial superiority run up against disappointing realities.

If you look at the map of Hillary's late election strongholds (and now McCain's), and you plot it against the Scots-Irish immigration path west and south in the 1700s and 1800s, you get a highly correlated scatter plot.

Btw I've been appreciating your posts lately. Keep it up!

Thank you, Marc. I'm glad I am making some sense to somebody other than...me. A voice crying out in the wilderness and all that.

The Scots-Irish link is very interesting, and it would seem to mirror the schism in the Catholic Church on social teachings as well (ie: liberal Jesus vs conservative Paul). I find a lot of this knee-jerk 'I'm so put-upon' thinking among the white Irish males of my own family. So looking forward to the holidays now...

legal mumbo jumbo
