"Mubarak and Suleiman are the same person," said Emile Nakhleh, a former top Middle East analyst for the CIA. "They are not two different people in terms of ideology and reform."Reportedly, Suleiman was personally involved in torturing the Australian citizen Mamdouh Habib, who we wrote about recently. Ron Suskind, author of the book The One Percent Doctrine, called Suleiman the "hit man" for the Mubarak regime. He told ABC News that when the CIA asked Suleiman for a DNA sample from a relative of Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri, Suleiman offered the man's whole arm instead.
In Australia, the attorney general's office has signed a deal with Mamdouh Habib, an Australian citizen, to induce him to drop his civil lawsuit accusing the Australian government for being complicit in his 2001 arrest, rendition, detention and torture in Pakistan, Egypt and Guantanamo Bay. To be clear, they are reportedly paying him money to go away because he has witness statements that back up his claims that his government helped torture him. One witness, a detainee named Madni, said, "Egyptian, Australian, Israeli (Mossad) and US intelligence agencies were involved in my interrogations." Those countries again: EGYPT, AUSTRALIA, ISRAEL and the US.
According to Richard Neville based on Habib's memoir:
Habib was interrogated by the country's Intelligence Director, General Omar Suleiman.... Suleiman took a personal interest in anyone suspected of links with Al Qaeda. As Habib had visited Afghanistan shortly before 9/11, he was under suspicion. Habib was repeatedly zapped with high-voltage electricity, immersed in water up to his nostrils, beaten, his fingers were broken and he was hung from metal hooks....To loosen Habib's tongue, Suleiman ordered a guard to murder a gruesomely shackled Turkistan prisoner in front of Habib -" and he did, with a vicious karate kick.

The Washington Pos t's intelligence correspondent Jeff Stein reported some additional details regarding Suleiman and his important role in the old Egypt the demonstrators are trying to leave behind:More powerful than Mossad chief? Goodness. We never imagined such a thing. Who *is* this guy?
"Suleiman is seen by some analysts as a possible successor to the president," the Voice of American said Friday. "He earned international respect for his role as a mediator in Middle East affairs and for curbing Islamic extremism."
An editorialist at Pakistan's "International News" predicted Thursday that "Suleiman will probably scupper his boss's plans [to install his son], even if the aspiring intelligence guru himself is as young as 75."
Suleiman graduated from Egypt's prestigious Military Academy but also received training in the Soviet Union. Under his guidance, Egyptian intelligence has worked hand-in-glove with the CIA's counterterrorism programs, most notably in the 2003 rendition from Italy of an al-Qaeda suspect known as Abu Omar.
In 2009, Foreign Policy magazine ranked Suleiman as the Middle East's most powerful intelligence chief, ahead of Mossad chief Meir Dagan. In an observation that may turn out to be ironic, the magazine wrote, "More than from any other single factor, Suleiman's influence stems from his unswerving loyalty to Mubarak."
Israel places resources at Suleiman's disposal "to protect the Egyptian regime"
Well-placed Israeli sources have disclosed that the Zionist state has offered to place "all its capabilities" at the disposal of General Omar Suleiman, the recently appointed Vice President of Egypt, for the "protection of the regime in Egypt". This offer includes the implementation of "various operations to end the popular revolution". Israel has also asked Suleiman to work on preventing arms being smuggled into the Gaza Strip.Sounds like a trusted partner.
An official in Benjamin Netanyahu's office said that the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu called Suleiman, who is also the director of Egypt's General Intelligence Service, and expressed his concern about the situation in Egypt. Netanyahu apparently suggested the possibility of Israeli intelligence personnel undertaking various specialist operations to bring an end to the demonstrations. The source added that Netanyahu and Suleiman also discussed ways of securing the border between Israel and Egypt.
The Hebrew newspaper Ma'ariv revealed that in recent days highly placed individuals in Netanyahu's office have conducted a series of telephone conversations with Suleiman to impress on the Vice President the necessity of coordinating on security with Israel. The telephone conversations were described as "urgent" and were designed to alert the Egyptians about the consequences of losing control of the tunnels described by many as Gaza's "lifeline" during the Israeli blockade. Israel is, claims Ma'ariv, concerned about increased activity in the tunnels "given the developments in progress inside Egypt" which have seen the Egyptian army "softening its anti-smuggling activities". In addition, it is claimed that there has been an increase in the number of illegal immigrants entering Israel from Egyptian territory.
Sources inside the Israeli Foreign Ministry said that Israel does not rule out General Suleiman "sacrificing his ties to Israel in order to satisfy the Egyptian street and bestow a measure of legitimacy on his appointment in the general opinion of the public". Suleiman maintains strong ties with Israeli officials and was responsible for several files linked to the Zionist state, including those relating to the ceasefire and a possible prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.

Mubarak signals Egypt succession by taking son to Washington, Haaretz, August 31, 2010
Gamal Mubarak, son of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, will accompany his father to this week's Washington peace summit in what may be the clearest sign yet that he is being groomed for the succession. ..This time, the younger of the president's two sons is expected to meet with Israeli delegates to U.S.-sponsored peace talks with the Palestinians, and perhaps even with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself.Meeting with Bibi himself? Kind of like meeting the pope we guess... a big deal.
No, actually, now the meeting supposedly never happened.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit has denied reports in the Israeli media that a meeting took place between Gamal Mubarak, head of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP)'s Policies Secretariat and son of President Hosni Mubarak, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. And who bankrolled Gamal Mubarak's Washington trip (that never happened)? No one will say.
According to Israeli news reports, the meeting--which also allegedly included US President Barack Obama--took place in Washington last week at a business lunch, held on the sidelines of the launch of direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA).
And since this trip surely has nothing to do with securing US and Israeli support for Gamal Mubarak's inheritance of power from his father, there is only one explanation left: The president just wanted to spend quality time with his son on the sidelines of the negotiations, like many fathers who take their kids to work as a form of leisure.

I seriously wonder if Mubarek is even in Egypt, and I am highly doubtful he is in Israel.
I would take a guess, that he is in the UK, Britain to be exact.
He'll probably attend the wedding of the prince.
As Ian Welsh said:
" They can win, or they can get tortured. When you enter the lion’s den, you better be willing to kill the damn thing, or at best, you’re getting mauled.
[...]
It’s really up to Egyptians. Either they have what it takes to finish the job (I’d suggest Mubarak needs a Ceauşescu moment), or they don’t. If they don’t, those who protested can expect to have a lot of intimate time with Mubarak’s thugs in which to mull over their inability to drive the spear home.
In between screams, of course. Contrary to what you might think, I’ve found those lingering moments between screams is a good time to realize how you fucked up."
