in the field the rules fell away

Excerpts from Condi Rice's statement before the 911 Commission, May 2004:

The terrorist threat to our nation did not emerge on September 11, 2001. Long before that day, radical, freedom-hating terrorists declared war on America and on the civilized world. The attack on the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983, the hijacking of the Achille Lauro in 1985, the rise of al Qaeda and the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, the attacks on American installations in Saudi Arabia in 1995 and 1996, the East Africa embassy bombings of 1998, the attack on the USS Cole in 2000, these and other atrocities were part of a sustained, systematic campaign to spread devastation and chaos and to murder innocent Americans.

See: dial a scapegoat

Khalezov reports that nuclear bombs can be calibrated to blow up anything from a single house to much larger targets. He describes the MANY bombs he says were dial-a-size nuclear bombs. He says he knows this as a fact. "Absolutely certain." It is "well-known to everyone." These include:

  • Bali
  • Marine Barracks in Beiruit, Lebanon
  • First US Embassy bombing in Beiruit, Lebanon
  • 1992 and 1994 bombings in Argentina, Buenos Aires
  • Bogota, Columbia El Nogal nightclub bombing
  • WTC 1993
  • Oklahoma City
  • Khobar Towers
  • US Embassy in Kenya and Tanzania
Condi:

The U.S. government did not act against the growing threat from Imperial Japan until the threat became all too evident at Pearl Harbor. And, tragically, for all the language of war spoken before September 11, this country simply was not on a war footing.

In one of PNAC's reports, written in 2000, they note "the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event -- like a new Pearl Harbor."

Or we could paraphrase. Change will not come until a new Pearl Harbor.

Condi:

America's al Qaeda policy wasn't working because our Afghanistan policy wasn't working. And our Afghanistan policy wasn't working because our Pakistan policy wasn't working. We recognized that America's counterterrorism policy had to be connected to our regional strategies and to our overall foreign policy....Our new approach to Pakistan combined the use of carrots and sticks to persuade Pakistan to drop its support for the Taliban. And we began to change our approach to India, to preserve stability on the subcontinent.

...For the essential crisis management task, we depended on the Counterterrorism Security Group chaired by Dick Clarke to be the interagency nerve center. The CSG consisted of senior counterterrorism experts from CIA, the FBI, the Department of Justice, the Defense Department (including the Joint Chiefs of Staff), the State Department, and the Secret Service.

..The threat reporting that we received in the spring and summer of 2001 was not specific as to time, nor place, nor manner of attack. Almost all of the reports focused on al Qaeda activities outside the United States, especially in the Middle East and North Africa.
...President Bush is leading the country during this time of crisis and change. He has unified and streamlined our efforts to secure the American homeland by creating the Department of Homeland Security, established a new center to integrate and analyze terrorist threat information, directed the transformation of the FBI into an agency dedicated to fighting terror, broken down the bureaucratic walls and legal barriers that prevented the sharing of vital threat information between our domestic law enforcement and our foreign intelligence agencies, and, working with the Congress, given officials new tools, such as the Patriot Act, to find and stop terrorists. And he has done all of this in a way that is consistent with protecting America's cherished civil liberties and with preserving our character as a free and open society.

...We are confronting the nexus between terror and weapons of mass destruction. We are working to stop the spread of deadly weapons and prevent then from getting into the hands of terrorists, seizing dangerous materials in transit, where necessary. Because we acted in Iraq, Saddam Hussein will never again use weapons of mass destruction against his people or his neighbors. And we have convinced Libya to give up all its WMD-related programs and materials.

See: THE WORLD TODAY.

So much has been predicted, as though scripted. Because it was scripted.

First came the narrative. People began to talk up the narrative. Stars were born. Experts created. Money flowed. Then came the events which fulfilled the narrative. More stars were born. More experts created. More money flowed.

If some lowly bloggers tell you that some such shit might go down, because we read exhaustively and painstakingly using ALL PUBLIC SOURCES THAT YOU CAN CHECK YOURSELF and using our very own BRAINS to add two and two together, that should be studiously ignored or even frowned upon as rather suspicious behavior. But if people who make big bucks at paneled THINK TANKS and have access to CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS and INSIDERS predict something before it happens, you should consider that TOP TALENT. And may the whiff of corruption never disturb thy nostril.

^^^^^^^

ALSO, if fiction writers predict major things before they happen, it, too, is TOP TALENT.

[ADDENDUM: Many thanks to fellow blogger Kenny at the Sideshow, who with perfect curiosity went to the library to check out an original copy of the book, and found that the first edition did NOT have the following references. SEE COMMENT SECTION. Therefore, the author and some editors apparently decided to add these references into the book for a later edition, presumably to make the story more realistic, or should we say to make the fiction narrative align more closely with the *other* fiction narrative that many people think of as "reality." "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines." Does this mean she is no longer "top talent?" We will leave that to the experts to decide.]

FBI Thriller, Published in 1999, References 9/11 --A 1999 best-selling thriller makes explicit references to 9/11 By Lori Price and Michael Rectenwald 10 Mar 2011

The CLG received an email, including an interesting observation by Suz. Suz notes that the events of 9/11 were mentioned in a thriller published two years earlier. An FBI thriller, The Edge, by Catherine Coulter, was published in 1999. The book is part of Coulter's ongoing 'FBI Thriller Series.' The Edge reached number six on The New York Times Best-Seller List for fiction on the 5th of September 1999.
Given the contents of the book, one wonders whether or not the FBI deserves credit for collaborating on the plot. A scan of Coulter's thriller includes the following sentence on page 19: Maybe I had a chance not to be, in the Counter-Terrorism section; particularly after 9/11 when the world had changed” (19, emphasis added).
The Edge was copyrighted by Catherine Coulter in 1999. The paperback version was released in 2000. The events of 9/11 hadn't happened yet.
The vaticinations of Catherine Coulter’s book beg several questions. How did this writer predict that a major terrorism event would occur on 9/11? Who is this author? What if any connections does she have to the government?
If this modern Nostradamus is not a government agent, we wonder why she hasn’t been tapped to deliver advanced notice of other major world events. (See also: CLG 9/11 Exposition Zone and 9/11 Blogger for additional info on 9/11.)
Page 19 also mentions Tunisia!

"I hated it when I saw it, prayed I wouldn't turn out like that in the years to come. Maybe I had a chance not to be, in the Counter-Terrorism section; particularly after 9/11 when the world had changed. The bureaucrats did their thing in Washington, but in the field the rules fell away. You were on your own, or at least you were if you were on the ground with a terrorist group in Tunisia."
Or Pakistan. Poor Ray.

Catherine had a great experience with the publishing industry, which at that time was "a closed and mysterious place," unlike today we guess.

Hardcover: 1999 Paperback: 2000

Coulter dispenses advice like an inspirational speaker, by Elisabeth Sherwin, August 4, 1996

Dressed like an airline hostess and speaking with the confidence and sincerity of an inspirational speaker, romance writer Catherine Coulter descended on Davis last week to tell the audience how successful she has been.
In less than 10 years, she's had 22 books on the New York Times best-seller list. That's successful. She's written 30 historical romances and four contemporary suspense novels. The young student who introduced Coulter at UC Davis on Wednesday night also complimented Coulter on her witty dialog, masterful use of suspense and her romantic plots.
Coulter was born in Texas and earned her master's degree at Boston College in 19th century European history. She lives in Mill Valley with her husband, a physician.
Her career began in New York. One day in the late '70s, Coulter was relaxing at home with her husband. She was reading a book, which apparently wasn't very good.
"I picked up the book and threw it across the room and said, 'I can do better than this!' " she said.
But at that time, the publishing world was a closed and mysterious place, according to Coulter. No one could tell her how to break in to the romance field. Undaunted, she and her husband plotted out a novel in a weekend and she wrote it. A freelance editor read her first effort and sold it.
"I was immediately offered a three-book contract," she said. "You can never discount luck," she added modestly.
Her first novel came out in 1978.
"You'll never forget that moment, holding your first book in your hand," she said. Other notable moments include getting a New York Times book review and getting on the New York Times best-seller list. Coulter is still hoping for one more golden moment - the moment one of her books is turned into a movie.
But her early success did enable her to quit her day job. She began writing full-time in 1982 after working as a speech writer for an insurance-related Wall Street business.
Coulter also might have added: You can never discount a killer agent. She described her agent as just such a driven, committed person and told several stories about mixing with celebrities in the New York publishing world.
The publishing world, she said, has turned into the entertainment world. "Anything is possible," she said. "You can go from mopping floors to (earning) $35 million a year."
She spoke about some instant best-sellers like Tom Clancy and Amy Tan.
"Usually, you hope just to have a comfortable life and keep going up (in sales and earnings). But my definition of success is: You get to quit your day job and make enough to feed the cat. Few people make $5 million a year."
Coulter also was free with advice. "The most important thing for new or beginning writers is, don't procrastinate. Don't whine. Sit you butt in a chair and write. And if you're not sure of yourself no one else will be. You have to be utterly disciplined but it can happen."
Think of it this way: If you write 500 words a day or less, say one page per day, you will have a novel done in a year.
And as you enter the cutthroat world of publishing, Coulter said, please, do this one thing. "Keep your word. Keep your word."
Coulter didn't talk much about writing but she did describe an irritating writing question that she frequently is asked.
"Are you still writing?" is the question.
"Yes, are you still a biochemist?" she replies, depending on whomever is asking.
Coulter said novels offer readers an escape so they can come back to reality refreshed. Her own favorite period in history, an era she returns to again and again, is the English Regency period of 1811-1821. "I know it cold," she said.
Her current novels include "The Cove," a straight suspense novel, and "Rosehaven," a medieval novel. Other recent works are "The Valentine Legacy" and "The Hellion Bride."
"The romance genre has evolved tremendously over the past 20 years," she said, "and my writing has, too, but at the center of every romance is the relationship. You can do whatever else you want. And I will promise you a good ending. If you want real life, you can watch the 6 p.m. news."
Coulter says a great variety of romance novels has emerged through the years including a gay Gothic novel about a young innocent governess...who just happened to be a guy.
"It was wonderful," she said.

I simply must get my hands on a copy pre 9/11 to see for myself.

Freaking amazing.

She is not related to Andrew Coulter the hog farmer who morphed into Ann the man Coulter is she? Those Coulters are a dynamic bunch. They favor a bit and are either extremely talented or extremely lucky.

Hi A.P:) Great post again..and i have to say what a creepy one eyed intense pic of that Woman..something hidden, something not "right" about that is there?
Have a great day.
Cheers A13

oh dubs where did you find that? too funny.

Jeremy Levinsohn. no wonder.

yes beulahman, her very own website gives the dates and the CLG link will take you right to a shot of page 19. i would like to hold the actual book in my hands too though. normally i don't read that sort of stuff because i'm too busy reading all this sort of stuff.
A. Peasant said…
hey A13, yes i agree. do a google image search on her name. lots of pics. a woman enjoying her prestige.

AP I always try and bookmark the good stuff!

In truth they are laughing at us. They love exalting buffoons like this into media stars. I have even heard clueless male "conservative" republicans wax glowingly about how they would love to do Rio with Annie!
A. Peasant said…
i've heard that too, from men who wouldn't know an actual woman from a hole in the wall...

I double checked that page 19 on google books and sure enough there's not only the 9/11 reference but also an al Qaeda one.

hmmmmm ...

hey that was good thinking Kenny. thanks for the link.

it's true that would be an exceptionally early reference to al queda, clearly an insider reference, but at least it could be argued that some people like richard clarke types would know about aq at that time.

but 9/11? there's no way to spin foreknowledge of the name, date and scale of the event that "changed everything."

more predictive programming from the entertainment industry...

Maybe we can go for a run on the bike path together. Life is unpredicable and creepy. too.

In other words Pakistan was friendly with Afghanistan, for obvious reasons they have alot of commonalities. I recall hearing an interview some time ago, a Pakistani man who resides in Canada, who was saying that Pakistan and Afghanistan had uniting goals. To become one.
So the fact that a common people with common goals would unite is unsurprising.
What the US did by invading was ensure that this did not happen. Less the nuclear armed Pakistan get bigger and more influential and become a balanced act with India.

And speaking of India
As Condoleeza said, they changed their approach, in other words they gave them weapon and other such goodies not to preserve stability, that is pure shit, they did it to increase instability.

The lies, the endless lies..

The info about the book is really strange...
A. Peasant said…
honkbonk, is there anyone who can keep up with you when you go running? i find your workouts astonishing. !!

hi Penny. the condi statement before the commission is very interesting to read now that all this time has passed. lies, narrative, justifications, total bullshit basically. and she delivered it all with a straight face.

sociopaths at work. and who wrote it all up for her?

OK. It has a hidden meaning. But anyway, she looks like someone that I have seen somewhere. Typical Eastern European look from THIS area. Have a good one!

Greetings,
I downloaded a copy of this book from usenet.nl and did not have a 9/11 reference. It was an ebook, so it could have been edited, then again, anything can be edited.

Following Dave's lead I downloaded the book from 4shared. The date of the upload says 2009-09-12.

http://www.4shared.com/document/7_toxGfe/Catherine_Coulter_-_FBI_04_-_T.html

Neither the 9/11 nor the al Qaeda parts were in it.

So which edition has been edited? And why?

It puts us back to square one needing an original copy.
kenny said…
I just walked down to the library a 1/4 mile from my house and they had a hard copy of The Edge. It's page 22 in this one and no 9/11 or al Qaeda parts.

The librarian was very helpful and said to the best of her knowledge it was an original copy. The only date in it was 1999.

So, apparently the author added the 9/11 reference later or it's a hoax right on up to google books, or both.

I don't have a working scanner or I would have checked the book out and scanned the page. But I'm sure there are many copies in libraries to verify this.
A. Peasant said…
Kenny, you are so good for doing the literal legwork. thank you.

interesting conclusion then. not in the original. i would say that's good. but why did they put it in a later edition? kind of obnoxious if you ask me, if it was a revision to make the story line hew more to reality, which is a storyline too! reinforcements. and these are the sorts of things that can go wrong...

honk bonk man -- obviously i missed the hidden meaning, though i thought it was an odd comment. ha, oh well.

You know Peasant I have been trying to watch some of this earthquake coverage on Fox News which I rarely ever watch. Most of those female reporters give me the impression you would not want to turn your back on them with a 20 dollar bill sticking out of your pocket.

From Marshall McLuhan's 'THE MEDIUM IS THE MASSAGE'[1964]:

"Science-fiction writing today presents situations that enable us to perceive the potential of new technologies. Formerly the problem was to invent new forms of labor-saving. Today, the reverse is the problem. Now we have to adjust , not to invent. We have to find the environments in which it will be possible to live with our new inventions. Big Business has learned to tap the s-f writer."

With new tech , jobs go. But Big Bisiness/Government has to do something with the 'unemployed'. So they find them roles - which to a large extent seem to be small groups of humans fighting against a big monster [ ,Lord of the Rings, Avatar,Harry Potter, The Great Satan, Terrorism etc.]

This then allows the media to consistently force an emotional, tribal meme on people which tends to traumatised reactions rather than using intelligent problem-solving and , more importantly, anticipation of problems arising.

We can see this in the 'arab revolutions' which just seemed to come from nowhere as everybody at once was suddenly angry with 40 year old regimes. Pictures of angry faces demanding.......

"Undaunted, she and her husband plotted out a novel in a weekend
and she wrote it."

The media writers doubtless do the same over world events which is why their stories have so many holes in them which people uncover thus initiating media-attack-dogs who villify investigators as 'conspracy theorists - troothers - mad' with the heavt implication they should be cast out or imprisoned.

' ....particularly after 9/11 when the world changed.'

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggghhhh!
A. Peasant said…
Ferris, the small groups of humans fighting against a big monster must always remain very small and divided also. a thousand partitions. the constant formation of identity politics and little eddies of theories (how many theories of 911?) also serve to keep the little tribes from forming one big tribe, which might put that other tribe in a modified figure four leglock.

Along this vein, get a load of this video game trailer -"Homefront"

I used to enjoy FPS games, and understand the craving for unique scenarios, but I find this fairly disturbing.

(another trailer suggests the "occupation" is run by North Korea...)

your home is where the war is.

yeah that is disturbing, noting that the games are geared toward teenagers.

Hey AP,...Ghost-writers paid for by the yids; as for the pic of this shill, check out the 'one eye' appearing in the pic; definitely "all seeing" masonic stuff there.

I have been involved in many publishing projects and the glamorous aspect as well as the 'luck' aspect of coulter's "fairytale" rise to the top are just too convenient and too ludicrously 'hollywierd' to explain the reality of her "success'. It's bullshit and she is a spoiled patsy lapping up the spittle of her yiddish enablers.

excellent post

hi V, yup i thought that one-eyed pose is just adorable too.

as for publishing, i have been close enough to also see that it doesn't work like it did for her. clearly she has received special treatment for some inexplicable reason and i don't mean talent.
